Hotel Room Video Scandal in MantoLa: Two Men Arrested for Privacy Violation and IT Act Offences; Third Accomplice Sought
Two men were arrested in MantoLa after a 28-second viral video showed a woman in an unconscious condition inside a hotel room. Police acted suo moto under the Information Technology Act and privacy violation laws. The accused allegedly paid 300 rupees to call the woman, while a third accomplice who recorded the video is still absconding.
The viral video, which circulated widely on Sunday, triggered immediate police action after authorities identified the location as a hotel within the jurisdiction of MantoLa Police Station. The footage shows the woman lying in a vulnerable and unconscious state on a bed, while two men are visibly present in the room and a third person is believed to have been recording the video.
Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested two accused identified as Faizan, a resident of Nala Mahavir under MantoLa Police Station limits, and Shahid alias Sameer, a resident of Dhulikhar, MantoLa. During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted that they had arranged for the woman to come to the location by paying 300 rupees.
According to police findings, the recorded video was later shared with an acquaintance of the accused, from where it spread across social media platforms, leading to widespread circulation and public outrage.
Although the victim has not filed any formal complaint, police initiated action independently and registered a case under provisions of the Information Technology Act and privacy violation laws. Authorities confirmed that the woman was contacted, but she refused to pursue legal action.
The police are now actively searching for the third accomplice involved in recording the video and facilitating its circulation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police City Syed Ali Abbas stated that despite the victim not coming forward with a complaint, legal proceedings were initiated by the police on their own accord under the IT Act and privacy violation charges. He further confirmed that both arrested accused have been sent to jail by the court, and additional charges may be added if the victim decides to cooperate in the investigation.
The incident has raised serious concerns over digital privacy breaches, misuse of mobile recording, and the rapid spread of sensitive content on social media platforms.
